WESMAR Bow Thrusters Ordered for Two New San Francisco Passenger Ferries

Woodinville, WA - 10 May 2016 --The list of passenger and car ferries around the world got even longer this month when WESMAR received orders for two more ferries. The WESMAR design delivers the extra power needed for high-speed ferries and the two new vessels will operate at a service speed of 27 knots. They are under construction at Kvichak Marine Industries for the Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA), San Francisco. Kvichak (a Vigor Company) won the $32 million contract for the 135-foot, 400 passenger-only, all aluminum catamaran ferries providing each with  two WESMAR hydraulic V2-12 dual prop, counter rotating bow thrusters, one in each hull. WESMAR’s unique counter rotating design provides up to 40% more thrust without increasing the tunnel size so they are perfect for the job. Each system will include three control stations in the pilot house.
In addition to its reputation for high quality, WESMAR’s rugged all stainless steel bow thrusters are US built with US parts meeting another stipulation in the  contract. WESMAR is one of the remaining few thrusters designed and built in the USA. The new vessels are expected to be in service the summer of 2017.
